Scope and content

Sub-series consists of digital video footage of campus events taken by LIDC staff. LIDC began using digital video cameras ca. 2002. Files 1-8 represent earlier analog materials later transferred to DVCam; file 109 is 1965 footage shot by CBC and transferred in 2006. Events documented include public lectures and readings, dance and theatre performances, building dedications, award and special ceremonies, anniversaries and commemorations.

Physical condition

Immediate source of acquisition

LIDC transferred 4 boxes of digital videotapes to the Archives in January 2015. All items had been assigned ID numbers by LIDC, in two ranges (1000-1600 and 9000-9400) with large gaps in the numbering. The creator's ID numbers are recorded at the item-level in Alternative identifier note. The 1000-range numbers were assigned in roughly chronological order, but this gets lost at the higher end of the range and is not characteristic of the 9000-range tapes. The Archives has physically organized the tapes by the original ID number, but has arranged the material chronologically for purposes of assigning archival file and item reference codes.

Many of the events were shot over multiple videotapes. For purposes of arrangement, each event is treated as a file and the actual tapes as items (even where there is only one tape for an event).

There is no file / item 124 due to numbering error during processing. File 109 is out of chronological order. It contains footage of SFU originally shot by CBC in 1965 and transferred to digital videotape in 2006; it has been moved to the front of the list.

Footage of various SFU Convocations was included in the same transfer, but has been separated out as its own series; see F-18-3-3. But tapes from both sub-series are physically intermixed, sorted by the original tape ID numbers.
