Series consists of records relating to the Vice-President, Academic's committee work, including participation or correspondence with Senate committees, Board of Governors committees, other standing and ad hoc university committees and task forces, search committees for senior university administrators, and external (non-SFU) committees. Records include correspondence, reports, and policies and procedures; meeting agendas, minutes, and supporting papers; terms of reference, and memberships lists; policies and procedures; and some case files.

The VP Academic's Office has always maintained a separate classification category for "Committees" but the groupings used to subdivide it have varied over the years. The present arrangement into sub- and sub-sub-series is based on the system in place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Sub- and sub-sub-series are generally arranged chronologically. File lists are arranged chronologically.

Note also that although the VP Academic's Office filed most committee material in either of these two series (the present series and F-200-10-3), some committee records and correspondence were also filed in other locations in the classification plan (e.g. President's advisory committees under "President's Office").
