History
Mackenzie Charles "Mac" Norris had a railroad career spanning 20 years with the Canadian Pacific Railroad (CP Rail) and 20 years with the Pacific Great Eastern Railway (PGE) / BC Rail. He was born June 2, 1925 in Silverton, B.C. and raised in Nelson. He served as a pilot in the RCAF and the RNVR Fleet Air Arm during the Second World War. In 1951, he graduated from the University of British Columbia (B.A.Sc. - (Forest Engineering)). While he was a student at UBC he worked in sawmills, logging camps and timber cruising throughout B.C. From 1978 until 1990, Mac was President/CEO and Director of the BC Rail Group of Companies; during his tenure as Vice-President and President the railway was rebuilt and reorganized. He was also a founding director of Rocky Mountaineer Vacations.
